Over the weekend many of Sussex’s non league teams held their first Covid-secure league games, and it would seem successfully so.
Club staff and hardy volunteers all did their bit to ensure that games went ahead in Whitehawk, Lewes, Eastbourne, Peacehaven, Burgess Hill, Horsham, and Littlehampton but to name a few, and for this they deserve enormous credit.
Undercurrent was at Lewes v Brightlingsea for our first home game of the season and can offer nothing but tremendous praise for the people who worked their socks off to make it a reality.
From the security staff organising the bar queue, to volunteers on the doors The Dripping Pan was a lovely place to be if you ignored the football. It was wonderful to be back and just as positive to see supporters observing all the new measures.
Given the fact that we all regularly participate in Tesco royal rumbles and sweat all over each other in the gym, standing around in a distanced football stand is of little issue – in fact it is probably the most distanced we’ve been in weeks.
Across Sussex there were big wins for Eastbourne Town, Littlehampton and Worthing, another victory for the resurgent Southwick 1882 FC, disappointing results for Lewes, Hassocks and Horsham and a bore draw for good measure. Also something happened at the Amex, you may have heard.
Check the full scores below and make sure you’re at a game this time next week.
