Plant Stories Kitchen raises thousands to feed children in need

Plant Stories Kitchen has raised more than £5,000 to help feed children in need this half term.

Brighton’s latest vegan community kitchen project – Plant Stories Kitchen – has raised more than £5,000 to help feed children in need this half term.

Plant Stories Kitchen is run by Gemma Ogston of Gem’s Wholesome Kitchens and Aye Mya Oo of Fu Fighters and has already garnered considerable praise within Brighton’s vegan (and otherwise) community.

The pair recently launched a GoFundme which aimed to raise £500 to help feed children in the half term break, but the campaign has since exceeded expectations by 1,143 percent – bringing in £5,719 to date.

Just under £3,000 of this was raised within the first 12 hours, much to the surprise of the team.

“We are beyond grateful and are committed to helping feed children in need not only in this half term but for all the school holidays coming up in the foreseeable future. While the government aren’t helping we want to (prayer emoji),” they commented on Instagram.

Having only opened this August gone, the kitchen has already established itself at the forefront of the city’s food community and will now be meeting with the Brighton and Hove Food Partnership to design a structured plan to extend help into the Christmas holidays.
